Miles Engineering took out “Employer of the Year Award” (December 2008)
John Hoffman, the owner of Roma-Miles based Miles Engineering is this year’s recipient of Southern Queensland Institute of TAFE’s “Employer of the Year Award”. The award was presented recently at the TAFE awards night, held at the Roma campus Jubilee Hall.
TAFE Roma’s Campus Operations Manager, Jamie Miller, said the award recognised John’s consistent and positive approach towards the training of his employees. “John truly believes these students will develop and contribute to the industry and the community as a whole,” he said. “That sort of belief is vital to their success. If they see that a business has faith in them, it’s encouraging for them.”
Mr Miller says Mr Hoffman’s dedication is obvious. “It’s evident by his commitment to addressing apprentices’ special needs such as mentoring, language, literacy and numeracy support and on the job assistance.
John has also gone well beyond his obligations, providing his own personal transport to ensure that students attend block training requirements as well as providing all stationary and training needs for his apprentices.”
Mr Miller said the Award couldn’t have gone to a more deserving person.
“John Hoffman has always made himself available during planned and drop-in visits for training reviews in a warm and accepting manner. He has tailored workshop jobs to provide relevant work skills that compliment upcoming TAFE training and his positive attitude towards the up skilling of his staff is evident by the friendly and happy work environment he provides,” Mr Miller said.
“With such a great commitment to students, Miles Engineering will have no trouble finding quality TAFE graduates.”
